Many queries about data privacy and storage. So here is the answer

Google modules can store user preferences (edit). I am using those fields with some javascript. So data is stored securely with google. No one but you can access that data with your credentials. Hence, if module is deleted the data is lost. Total privacy of data and no need for any personal information or database at my side.

Neither me nor anybody else can get your data.
– Vikram Agrawal 26 months ago
Vikram,

Just to clarify, are you saying that ToDos entered are stored in the Google IG user preferences, like the other ToDo module by a Google employee?

R.
– Rory 26 months ago
@Rory

Yes, todos are stored in IG user preferences so that user can access them on any computer virtaully anywhere they logs in. Its just with some javascript.
– Vikram Agrawal 26 months ago
This module is turning out to be nicely designed and it works well.

Suggestion for a strikethrough feature. So, that you can mark a ToDo as complete have have it struckthrough or grey out but not yet trashed. Once you're ready to not see it again, then you can trash it. A lot of people like to mark ToDos off but keep them listed for a short period for a variety of reasons (i.e. "How many things did I accomplish today?")

Suggestion to add this Googlemodules.com page as a link to your module edit section as a "Feedback/Help" link. That would help link your module to this thread, so users can provide feedback.

Thanks for the great module.

Suggestion noted and will be implemented at soonest.
– Vikram Agrawal 26 months ago
Both features implemented.

1. Export / Import / Feedback links inside options to avoid showing too many links those may not be used frequently. Feedback will bring to this page.

2. Now you can mark tasks done and then delete it. Again Done and Delete are not together so as to conserve space and personally speaking I will not delete a job till its done ;-).

Note: Any changes like edit, due except changing order will remove done as task is changed.

-- Done information in import/export will be implemented soon.

Keep suggesting what all features you will like to have
– Vikram Agrawal 26 months ago
Vikram,

I really like how you've implemented the strikethrough feature by combining it with the trash. And it's kind of easy for users to figure out that changing the strikethrough back to a ToDo requires you to select edit.

With these features, and because it saves info to Google user preferences, this is the best ToDo module there is.

Thanks! I'll put a couple of other suggestions in a separate post.

Rory
– Rory 26 months ago
Suggestions:

1) Make the ToDo List blue title editable by the user so they can call the list anything they want. "Tasks," etc. This will help, also, when they add multiple instances of the module.

2) get rid of top empty line of space between blue title and first item.

3) get rid of Options link at the bottom to save real estate. "Edit" link in the blue title bar should be sufficient.

All very small suggestions.

– Jason 26 months ago
All suggestions by Rory are implemented.
1. Click on edit and you can change title.
2. Empty line & options removed to save space.

Thanks Rory for helping in making the module better.

Thanks to Jason also for suggesting a related module for user those needs very light weight todo list.
The above meintioned todo module (www.google.com/ig/modules/todo.xml) is very good. I tested it. Cool, simple to use and with three level of priorities. Its a gr8 piece of work.

Keep the feedback coming.
Thanks & Regards,
Vikram Agrawal
– Vikram Agrawal 26 months ago
Done information is integrated in import/export also.
– Vikram Agrawal 26 months ago
I think the feature of the Google one to give priorities is a good idea, why
not implement it here?
That would make it even better.
(The one, that stops improving, will soon not be good anymore... ;) )
– Jack 25 months ago
Just one more...
The Due time should either be editable or not be displayed, as it seems to show, when you added the due.
If it is editable, it should take care of the timezone ;-)
Anyway (i hope you don't mind me repeating myself ;-) ) this IS a great module!
– Jack 25 months ago
Hmmm .... change is only constant in the world. (Then why we have "const" keyword, use it and make anything constant ;-) ).

Due Time is editable, you can change it by clicking on calendar.
Timezone will certainly help many people and I will consider it for next update. Priorities is also a very good idea, just cannt get a good UI design for implementing it.
But both features will be implemented soon ...

Thanks & Regards

Vikram:

Nice module.

Would be nice if the "TO DO" items could be labled for a category, just like GMail allows you to do.

Is that something you are considering?
– Pawan 25 months ago
Hey thats seems to be great idea of labeling todo some how. I will surely implement it. It will take a while as I have to figure how to integreate in UI and then code it. If you have any idea how it can be shown in UI or other I will appreciate you can share it. I will keep you updated.

Having trouble w/ importing. Seems to import fine and shows on screen, 33 items. Then when I save, all is lost. Otherwise just what I am looking for. Thanks!
– Roger 25 months ago
Just also noticed that import effectively replaces ALL. Not what I expected and could result in lost data. Thanks!
– Roger 25 months ago
Suggestion 1:
reduce the size of the Due Date footprint, which takes up two much space.

current: Due at Sat 10 Jun 2006 05:32:54 PM EDT Remove Due
to: Due Sat Jun 10/06 5:32pm Remove

AND

current: OverDue at Sat 10 Jun 2006 03:35:00 PM EDT Remove Due
to: Overdue Sat June 10/06 3:30pm Remove

Suggestion 2: add smaller input box option of x10.

Otherwise, your ToDo module is trucking along, is stable and a great addition to my homepage. Thanks.

Rory
– Rory 25 months ago
@Roger:
I noted the problem you mentioned. I will add an option for adding or replacing for import. Also working on import sometimes not work correctly in one time. Updatation will be done soon.

@Rory:
Both sugestions implemented. You can specify your own simple format
Date Format: dd-date, MM-month, yyyy-Year, DD-Day, hh-Hour, mm-minute, ss-second, ap-AM/PM
Eg.
DD, MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm ap
Mon, 06/12/2006 02:00 PM

Suggestion: add a doneDate, this way we know how long we take to complete the activity.

Thanks for great module!

Vikram,

Thanks for the great module. I have a suggestion, I hope it is possible to implement :)

Suggestion: How about implementing the ordering of tasks by drag/drop. If it is not possible, how about having another set of up/down arrows which sends the tasks either "all the way up/all the way down". That way it will be a bit easier to order the tasks.

Again thanks for great stable module.

Hi
Suggestion on hold for some or other reasons:
1. Time zone
2. Labels
3. Done date

Suggestions in progress:
1. Drag & Drop
– Vikram Agrawal 25 months ago
Now drag and drop feature is available for reodering. No more hassles to reprioritize your list. Enjoy .....

Inprogress: time zone (Estimated completion time 10 days ;-), I have to work for my company also)
– Vikram Agrawal 25 months ago
Great..thanks for drag/drop.

Tips which I think will help in using drag/drop.
  1. If you are drag/dropping a task from top to bottom, then drop it at the lower-half of the destination task.
  2. If you are drag/dropping a task from bottom to top, then drop it at the upper-half of the destination task.

Thanks,
pjr

Great again, the d&d works perfectly.
– Fabrice 25 months ago
Thanks for your hard work Vikram. I tried your module for the first time thist morning, and I noticed a few things that appear to be bugs:
- I added 40 items to the list, then did some searching, etc. Then I came back to add due dates, and only 20 items were visible. I exported the list and confirmed that only 20 items had been saved.
- When I exported the list, I noticed that the XML is not valid due to a typo in the opening description field: "<desciption>Exported list of todo module at google homepage. Please save content of this file.
". I fixed this in notepad, added the missing 20 items to the xml by hand, then re-imported the list. This worked fine and I can see all of my items.
- I then went through and added due dates to all items. I again went searching around to get more items to add to the list, then when I returned to add more items, no due date data was present. I again exported the list to be sure, and the due date data was not present.

Overall, I really like this module and it has the potential to be extremely useful. However, these few bugs make it a little bit frustrating to use.

FYI, I am running Windows XP Professional (fully patched) and Firefox 1.5.0.4

Thanks again.

Drag & Drop: Actually, it is sometime really difficult to move a task, because the move is not accepted. I really don't know if the precision of the drag&drop zone is not enough...
This happens on my machine with 15 tasks, a TODO font size of 10px and due date of 8px, with 16 tasks (some of them marked as done), and FireFox last version (1.5.0.4).
– Fabrice 25 months ago
No matter what I do, I cannot get a due date to show up in my to-do items. For example, I have specified a date format of yyyy-dd-MM, but when I click on a to-do item's Date icon and select a date, it never shows up in the to-do item. What am I doing wrong? Please help! (I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.4.)
– Mike 25 months ago
Hi Vikram,

As we have drag/drop facility now, how about removing the up/down arrows and use that space for something else? Like change task "color", or make task "Bold".

Thanks,
pjr
– pjr 25 months ago
Love it. one nit:
the date popup clunky (i've used it myself) and I'd love a DHTML solution instead.
thanks for the good work!
– sven 25 months ago
Hi Vikram,

very nice work! Congradulations! I already started using it.

Questions:
1. Is it safe to use this module? Is it going to be around after a week, a month, a year? How safe it is to use it seriously?
2. How many items can it store? Is there a limit?

Suggestions:
1. Nice option would be not to delete the tasks done, but be able to hide them instead. For example an option to choose whether to display the tasks done or hide them.
2. It would be nice to choose the size of the tasks I would like to be displayed, if I have written 30 tasks there maybe I would like only the first 10 to be on the screen.

Cheers,
Zharko
– Zharko 25 months ago
@Mike
New customization will be implemented soon.

@Seven
I am working on DHTML solution. Will be there by end of this week.

@Zhark
1. Module is safe. Although it gives me a full opportunity to mess when its inline but I have no such intentions. Data is also secure as it directly comes from google server. For stability, there are few factors, till googlepages.com doesn't mess up with my account in terms of bandwidth etc it will going to be there. Thats why I gave backup facility, in case I need to change location of module. But by my experience with server till now, there must be no problem in future also. So you can expect the module to be there.
2. I havent checked how many items you can store, but from posts its clear that atleast 40.

Two more things will be considered in customization .. display done tasks and tasks per page.

So my todo list (many to be completed this week):
1. DHTML calendar
2. Color etc
3. Hide done
4. Pagination
5. Time zone
6. Labels
7. Done date
– Vikram Agrawal 25 months ago
It is a great to do list but we need a multiple todo lists. e.g. Work to do list, Home to do list, Shopping to do list, ......
– Nahel Saied 25 months ago
Hide Done & Pagination features are implemented. Although you cannot drag & drop from one page to another. Other features are in progress.
– Vikram Agrawal 25 months ago
Hi Vikram,

congratulations, awesome module, it's not helping me "doing faster" but at least I have the overview :-)

The drag&drop instead of the arrows...excellent feature except for the fact it took me some time to find it :-))

My improvement proposal...
to be able to change the Font Size of the items themselves; in my case, I would make them smaller.

My bug: the line "<< Prev Page 1 of 1 Next >>" remains even when a single page is being shown (quite redundant)

My wish: keep it simple; it's just great the way it is, I hope it does not get overfeatured;

Thank you again!

dm
– Demian 25 months ago
@Demain
Thanks for your helpful suggestions. You can change fontsize of the items using TODO Font Size Preference. I fixed the bug of showing pagination when there is only one page.
Also thanks for reminding my initial motivation of starting this todo module to keep it simple. I guess, I will have two versions (or option in one) for just simple & plain and feature rich module so that you can use it as per your choice.

The picture sometimes isn't loaded, caused by web traffic.
Could you make an option to change the picture to text or button?
– Jason 24 months ago
how about quick add button to google calendar near an item?
Also what do you think of grouping of tasks?

nice work so far ;)
– xenon 24 months ago
Thanks - A great module!!!
re grouping prioritising etc, the idea mentioned by pjr would be really great
i.e be able to define a colour (background?) for a task, thus allowing related tasks to be associated.

Also could you right justify the task numbers (limit to 99?) and position the task titles so that with 10 or more entries they align?
– stef bishop 24 months ago
I can't get my due dates to display. Any suggestions/instructions?
– Dustin 24 months ago
Good module. Can you please add the functionality to change the background and text color.
– Bipin 24 months ago
A wonderful tool. Unfortunately i could not get the date feature to work under IE 6.0 or Opera, only under firefox.
A possible work-around would be to parse the date out of the text of the todo item?
– David 24 months ago
I got the date to display using IE. It seems not to work with one-window modein FF. It would be nice to have a calendar popup that does not rely on a new window to open, such as this one: dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex7/jasoncale...
– Dustin 24 months ago
The date calendar doesn't work!!! :(
– Steve 24 months ago
Hey Vikram i think you're doing a good job! keep up the good work!! :)
– Dude from India 24 months ago
I think it would be a good idea if the focus is regiven to the TO DO: field, so one can continue adding tasks one by one with the keyboard (without having to give focus to the field again for each task)

Also what do you think of an option for the newly added tasks to be pushed to the front of the list rather than at the end.
– xenon 23 months ago
I like it ! Would it be possible to get notes for each todo ?
– Paroliver 23 months ago
Hi. Just installed, and I see it will be easy to use. Two concerns right now:
1. calendar icon doesn't work on any task entries.
2. Is is possible to "undo" a "task completed" tick? i.e. if tick is clicked in error, can it be undone? I find only a "trash" option on it, but would like to make it a live task again. Or should I just reenter the task as a new task?
– Jeanne 23 months ago
Great module. The only thing I would wish for would be that the "undone" todos be sorted to the top of the list. Thanks for your time and effort
– Ian 23 months ago
I can't get the up and down arrows to appear to change the priorities on my task but it is on the picture preview. Am I doing something wrong?
– Catherine 23 months ago
Unfortunately, the live preview doesn't work. Javascript error.
– Raj Parmar 23 months ago
Hi All,
I think it is a good Idea as users to post usage instructions, so that it helps new users and reduces the number of queries that Vikram has to answer. That way he can dedicate more time developing the new features.

Lets prefix with your usage instruction as "Usage:" and any tip with "Tip:" so that its easy to follow.
==========================
Tip: To undo the completed task, click on edit( pencil icon) and click on (green tick) once it is in edit mode. Its that easy :). -- Answer for Jeanne's question

Usage: Up and Down arrows are replaced by drag n drop. You can prioritize tasks by dragging and dropping whereever you want in the list -- Answer for Catherine's question.
==========================

I'm using this module to keep track of my workgroup's individual todo lists so I have a google account with several todo modules on the same page. It seems the calendar button doesn't work in this scenario. I've tried Firefox and Opera on the Mac and IE on Windows. Thanks!
– Jamey 23 months ago
Thanks pjr.

I was not available for the long time. So, for now let me answer some common queries

1. Calendar feature comes as a popup so if you are not getting it please check whether its blocked by browser.
2. Calendar has some issues(script is not customized) hence does not work with multiple modules (working on it to fix it).

I faced some Denial of Service attack on the module hence it was unavailable for sometime in past. Now it seems to be OK.

My first priority is to fix calendar as it has many issues.

For new features, introducing new features may make usage of module complex. So may be you can help me out if you have some idea how to implement a cool feature without making operation on list complex.

OR

have an option of advance/basic feature. So user can choose he wants advance features or just a simple todo list.
– Vikram Agrawal 23 months ago
Great module
Hey would it be possible to add a print button ?

– Mischa 23 months ago
I have several TODO's on the same page and recently noticed on one of my lists that it wouldn't add the 23rd item. Something against Michael Jordan? ;^)
– Jamey 23 months ago
I'd like to be able to hide the calendar icon at the right of the entries as a preference. I don't use this feature and would love to not see it there.

Love it!
– Doug 23 months ago
great module!

But it can be better if the task priority setting is include:)
– karl 23 months ago
This is one of my two most-used modules (the other being local weather radar). The only suggestion I have is to fix the Calendar so I can use it with more than one list -- which I see is something you're already doing.

Great work. Thank you!
– Eric 23 months ago
I take that back -- I do have a suggestion: I'm having trouble with the drag and drop (in Firefox 1.5.0.6) -- it seems to occur when dragging an item with a due date one position up when the item above it doesn't have a due date. You may be able to reproduce the problem as follows: Make a list with five items:

1. test1
2. test2
3. test3
4. test4
5. test5

Give due dates to the 1st and 2nd in the list. Drag and drop item 3 into spot 2 so that you have:

1. test1 (has due date)
2. test3
3. test2 (has due date)
4. test4
5. test5

Now try to move test2 back to position 2. (I can't get it this to work.)
Next, drag test4 to position 3:

1. test1 (has due date)
2. test3
3. test4
4. test2 (has due date)
5. test5

Now try to drag test2 to position 3. (I can't get this to work.)
Next, drag test2 to position 2. (This does work okay for me.)

Even apart from this problem, it sometimes takes a couple of tries to find the right drop spot for the drag and drop to work. My suggestion is to make the list numbers drop targets so moves "stick" the first time as long as you drop with your cursor over the list number.

Thanks again for the time & effort you put into this module! It really is one of the best around.
– Eric 23 months ago
Hi Vikram :
first of all : thanks a lot for you really useful module !

I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.6 like a lot of web users, is there any chance you fix the bug related to the date ( that doesn't appear on our todo list) ?

Thanks again !
– Bucky 22 months ago
Hi,

Great module, especially since i don't want the system-overhead from google desktop just to use the todo.

1 problem though: my images are missing, since a few days.

I do remember installing a firefox extension that did something with images, but images started dis-appearing from web pages and thus i de-installed this extension.

My questions is: how do i get my images back?

I suppose re-installing would do it..for back-up of todo list: just export, re-install and then import?

regards,

Marc

btw: the new inline module on this page doesn't show..

Hi,
  I really like this idea.
But I can't get the calendar to work for me in IE 6 at all. No pop up. Yes, I disabled the pop-up blocker. Also, I can click edit and change text, but the check to save does not work either.
And in Firefox, I do get a pop up tab and can change the time and click on the date, the window then closes, but nothing appears on the list itself. However, in Firefox, the edit does work correctly.
Drag and drop works for me in both.

Thank you,

Overall very nice, but one suggestion:
Add the option to automatically sort based on due date, and automatically put completed items at the bottom of the list
– Mike 22 months ago
I agree with the above comment. It would be nice to be able to have "to do's" listed by due date, although I don't really care whether the completed items go to the bottom. Besides that, this is great!

Delicious tool!

it took some time (and to read the hings above) to find the drag&drop for positioning... a hint (at 'edit' ) would be helpful.

Does anybody really need the numbering of the task (1., 2. ....) ?
Especially with regard to the drag&drop funktion, numbering is shuffled anyway.
We/you can save space omitting it.

I don't need anything else! really great tool :-)
Thanks for it

Any fix on the Custom Title Making the Items disappear?
– Paul 9 months ago
Hi Vikram,
I played with your module a bit, and find it quite useful. Good work.

Just one glitch -- After changing the font size in "edit settings" my list still displayes with 14ptx font. This is much bigger than rest of the page, and this module sticks out. Looks like there is a bug somewhere, not allowing the font change to take effect?
– Abhishek 7 months ago
Found out by myself that a custom title makes everything disappear. AND then "edit settings" no longer works; clicking that just creates a new tab (in Firefox). They're all gone.
– Trinity 6 months ago
Settings:
When I change the "Todo list title" under the settings, I can no longer add any tasks. the box becomes empty without the add button and input box. Changing the "Todo list title" back to empty, brings back the input box and the add button. I use firefox.

Also, is it possible to add HH to the date format for the 24 hour time?

Other then that, it's very neat and easy to use. I like it.

Hi Vikram

Thanks for this great tool.
My only gripe is I find the drag & drop a little bit clunky when you have a long list (I have 37 items) and you add a new todo that you want near the top as you can't drag and scroll the page up at the same time. Could you perhaps add a button that shot the item straight to the top or maybe another field when editing/adding an item that said what number you want it to be inserted above? Something like that anyway. Other than that this gadget is pretty much perfect and has replaced my use of Outlook tasks.
